SALISBURY AND DISTRICT BUS OPERATORS TIMETABLE JUNE 1949

This is the tenth page of timetables, and shows the services of two smaller operators coming into Salisbury from the south.  They are Martin Motor Services (M Flemington) and Whitsbury Motor Service (Coombs).  Charles Flemington was in business as a haulier in Martin by 1912.  The motor bus service had started by 1923 and was extended to Damerham in 1939.  The service passed from the Flemington family to Coombe Hill Coaches (R J Chalk Ltd) of Coombe Bissett in April 1974 and subsequently to Wilts & Dorset.  The Whitsbury service had been started by Douglas Jerrard of that village in horse drawn days.  A motor bus arrived in the 1920s.  The routes passed to Mrs D Coombs in 1947 and subsequently to Albert Herrington on 1st July 1953.  Herringtons Coaches still run this route on Tuesdays, now extended back to start from Parsonage Park near Fordingbridge, and their operating base is now at Alderholt rather than Whitsbury.
